Working in groups

Working in groups can be stressful given the chaotic nature of it. Everyone has there own opinions on the subjects, and there will always be someone who takes charge. This is good because groups need structure without being closed off to peoples opinions. The order should include a leader: someone who takes control of the situations that get out of hand, off topic, or need specific attention to like roles in the group.

There are 4 stages of group progression:

1) Forming: this is finding the group members you wish to work with. Members are still new to one another, therefore, will most likely be anxious and uncertain. This is where group members also get to know the members personalities, quirks, and overall attitudes towards the group. It is imperative to set an organization premise off the start. Realizing that organization and roles are important at the beginning will prevent some future issues.

2) Storming: This is where every one's opinions on the matters in the group begin to show. This is the stage to set roles and responsibilities for the group and organizing the roles and responsibilities of the group will create a more successful group dynamic for the duration of the groups time together.

3) Norming: the stage where all the pieces come together, and team members begin working towards the desired goal of the group. This is where the rough edges are smoothed out. The team members work with the strengths of their team mates and focus towards the completion of their goals.

4) Performing: After all the members on on the same page and can work towards the same goal they get to a point where they can achieve the goals as desired by the group. This is called the performing stage. During this stage they can achieve the overall outcome of the groups goals and work smoothly towards future goals.

there is a 5th goal added ten years later called adjourning.

5) Adjourning: This is the stage where the members begin giving credit to where its due. Members get an overall positive feeling of happiness and a sense of accomplishment.

Working in a team/group can be very rewarding with the difference of opinions, sharing light to new ideas, and creating an increase in productivity. Groups are also a double sided coin where the opposite would happen as well. Negativity, arguments, and animosity towards group members. Organizing the groups roles and responsibilities off at the beginning can increase the overall environment and group dynamic. Work towards the same objective, and organize yourselves to achieve pieces of the puzzle.
